The New York Public Library released this Black Friday its tongue-in-lion’s cheek ad campaign marketing the deal of the day for “an unlimited time only!”: free books.
The fifth annual NYPL spoof ads give a hat tip to 90s television commercials that will likely leave millennials upwards New Yorkers cackling and the Gen Zers mildly confused. (Tip: We used to have very silly ads, unlike today!)
“Have you been personally victimized by boredom?” one attorney ad demands to know. Another makes the unique promise, “But Wait…There’s More!”

These annual ads serve as a friendly reminder that any New Yorker can go to their local library and check out a book.
There isn’t even a possibility of incurring a late fee after the NYPL — which serves Manhattan, Staten Island and The Bronx — eliminated those last year. Get your New York Public Library card here.

The ads spoof used car commercials, cheesy attorney ads, “Now That’s What I Call Music” compilations (remember those?) and informercials.
