In February 2018, President Donald Trump, when asked to comment on the performance of some of the deputy sheriffs responding to the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, proclaimed that he would have rushed in, “even if I didn’t have a weapon.”
So why did he respond the way he did during the Jan. 6 insurrection? Where did his bravado go? Actions — including inaction — speak louder than words. For this alone, he should be convicted. And the senators who support Trump’s dereliction of duty, his oath-breaking behavior, will live with deserved shame.
