WASHBURN, Maine — Kyle Thurston, a senior at Washburn District High School, earned a gold medal in the SkillsUSA cabinetmaking contest.
Thurston has been eager to be in the shop anytime he can, school officials said. He completed Mr. Hanson’s Woodworking I & II classes during his freshman and sophomore years, and his passion for working has continued through his enrollment in Mr. Bragan’s building trades program through the Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center.
Thurston became involved in SkillsUSA through the building trades program. Program participants attended a recent trade show at The Forum in Presque Isle, where Thurston earned gold in the cabinetmaking contest.
