Donald Trump is expected to declare his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election shortly after the midterms.
He recently told a rally in Iowa he will “very, very, very probably do it again”.
He remains a key force in the Republican Party and has endorsed nearly 300 candidates.
Their success could be seen as a commentary on his election prospects – if they are successful it suggests he has the political strength required for his bid, but if they struggle it would raise questions about his prospects compared to his Republican rivals.
Those who are successful could also become key allies if he runs for the presidency again.
If the Republicans are able to wrest control of Congress from Democrats they could shut down the House committee investigating the 6 January 2021 riot at the US Capitol, which recently issued Mr Trump with a subpoena to testify.
They could also launch an investigation into Mr Biden’s son, Hunter, over his business ties to China.
