WENATCHEE — U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is scheduled to visit the Wenatchee area this week to celebrate funding for the Apple Capital Loop project.
The former presidential candidate, who now serves in the Biden Administration, is expected to highlight federal investments in local transportation projects, made possible by the $1.2 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that passed last year.
Wenatchee Valley transit leaders hope to fund the Apple Capital Loop, a suite of road, bridge, underpass and interchange projects, using a combination of state and federal money. The federal government has already granted $92 million for the Loop, which includes the Confluence Parkway bridge-and-bypass planned for north Wenatchee.
Buttigieg’s visit was announced today by the Department of Transportation. U.S. Rep. Kim Schrier is also scheduled to attend the visit, which includes a planned roundtable with fruit industry leaders about supply chain issues. Other details were still pending as of Monday.
The agency says Buttigieg will also visit the Seattle area during his trip to Washington, scheduled to take place Thursday and Friday.
