Shaud is deceased.Officers were fired upon immediately, DA saysLebanon County District Attorney Pier Hess Graf revealed more details about what led up to Thursday’s shooting.She said that Shaud’s family owned the residence where the shooting happened, however Shaud did not reside there. On Thursday a family member returned home and found that Shaud had broken in. That relative called police, who responded to the residence around 3:30 p.m.”Police responded and attempted to enter the home. Shaud immediately opened fire upon four city police officers. Officers returned fire; Shaud was pronounced dead on scene,” a statement from the DA’s office says. “One injured officer radioed for help. Surrounding police departments responded and carried the wounded to safety. Officers performed life-saving measures on Lieutenant Lebo to no avail.”A search of the residence uncovered multiple firearms, according to the DA. Graf said Shaud shot at the officers with a handgun. Shaud does have a criminal history of domestic assaults and a protection from abuse order, the DA’s office said.Previous story “As one can only imagine, I mean, it’s clearly a traumatic event,” Lebanon Police Chief Todd Breiner said at a Thursday night news conference. “Our guys are strong but we’re human and we have families and people were injured today. That was around 3:30 p.m. Then at 4:24 p.m., shots were exchanged and the three officers were hit. One witness told WGAL there were about eight to ten shots fired.Breiner said the subject of the domestic disturbance call, a 34-year-old Lebanon man whose name has not yet been released, is deceased.The Lebanon County district attorney’s office is conducting an investigation.The last time a Lebanon police officer was killed in the line of duty was 1903.WGAL has multiple crews working this story today.
