A promo for South Park’s newest episode, titled ‘South ParQ Vaccination Special,’ teases hostility between masked and QAnon shirt-wearing students.
A new promo for South Park‘s upcoming “South ParQ Vaccination Special” is here to openly satirizing everyone’s rational and irrational fears once again.
Opening with a masked Stan, Kyle, Eric and Kenny confronting Butters outside his house, the promo teases a verbal showdown between Cartman and Butters’ dad, only for Mr. Stotch to back away once Cartman threatens to “come say it to your face” with his mask removed.
From there, the promo pokes fun at both the struggle to get a COVID-19 vaccine and the rise of QAnon in American politics. This includes Mr. Mackey asking someone to “get all the vaccines you can and bring them here to school,” playground fights between South Park’s masked and QAnon shirt-wearing students dubbed “Lil’ Q’Ties” and Cartman claiming that someone is “offering us 2,000 bucks for a vaccine.” It also highlights QAnon’s conspiracy theories, with Butters revealing that he’s only wearing the shirt because he “just wanted to believe in something that would get me out of the house.”
Since the coronavirus began, South Park co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have temporarily put aside their traditional episodic format for the show’s 24th season in favor of occasional “special” episodes with extended lengths. Their first video in this format, titled “The Pandemic Special,” released in September 2020 and explored the various ways in which residents of South Park were coping with endless quarantine, from Eric Cartman loving any excuse to get out of school to Stan Marsh being overwhelmed but trying to hide his anxiety to Randy Marsh creating a “pandemic special” cannabis to boost sales for his Tegrity Farms business.
