KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Knox County man was severely burned after a planned burn turned into a brush fire.
According to Juan Fuller, a volunteer firefighter and EMT with Harrison Township Fire, the call came in at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday. When firefighters arrived they found a man who had been severely burned after attempting to add fuel to a fire. The fuel exploded burning the man and causing a small brush fire.
Fuller said the accident caused the man to have 2nd-degree burns over 90% of his body. Good Samaritan EMS arrived and began to treat the man before a helicopter ambulance arrived and flew the man to an Indianapolis hospital.
As of November 25, Knox County remains under a burn ban.
Fuller credited Petersburg Fire for their assistance on the scene and for putting out the brush fire quickly.
Fuller was unable to provide an update as to the status of the injured resident at this time.
