Christine Hatfield served two decades in the Navy and Air Force. She had a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, a husband and a house. She never expected to live in a shelter.
But when forced to leave her Ludlow home, Hatfield found refuge with Soldier On, a nonprofit dedicated to curbing veteran homelessness. In a 16-unit home built by the organization in the shadow of the Veterans Affairs hospital in Northampton, Hatfield has a safe and low-stress environment with essential medical care in her backyard.
