Katharine McPhee and David Foster have a “really simple” way of staying “connected” three years into their marriage.
The couple don’t often have “extravagant” date nights, preferring to do dinner and a movie instead, McPhee told Fox News in an interview published Thursday.
“I’ll have a glass of wine – he doesn’t drink – and we just talk,” the “American Idol” alum, 38, explained. “That’s our time together that we always make sure to have.”
Because of the duo’s “very hectic schedules,” they prioritize that “important” time together, especially since son Rennie’s February 2021 birth.
“There’s always something to talk about whether it’s our family, our son – it’s our time,” the singer said. “We just want to reconnect.”
McPhee and the composer, 73, tied the knot in June 2019, nearly one year after their engagement.
Foster was previously married to B.J. Cook, Rebecca Dyer, Linda Thompson and Yolanda Hadid. McPhee, for her part, wed Nick Cokas in 2008 and called it quits six years later.
Since moving on with Foster in 2017, many social media trolls have criticized McPhee and Foster’s age difference.
Online hate, however, has “zero impact” on the “Country Comfort” star.
“I’m going to spend about as little time on it as the person who decided to write it in the first place,” McPhee explained. “I’m sure they don’t even think about it five seconds later after posting it.”
The “Smash” alum has clapped back at backlash in the past, telling “Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast” listeners in March 2021 that “things are never as they appear.”
While McPhee “totally get[s] the judgment initially,” she said, “I’m in love with our love story and that’s all that matters.”
Foster’s children have also defended the pair’s age difference over the years.
In December 2017, Sara Foster told Us Weekly that she and younger sister Erin Foster “approve” of the relationship.
“If we ever thought that anyone was in something for the wrong reasons, we would be very vocal about it,” the “Barely Famous” alum, 41, said at the time. “We just want someone that’s going to treat him well and that cares about him.”
