Former President Donald Trump’s rally in Birmingham scheduled for June 18 has been canceled, and a new Alabama-based rally has been set for July 9 in Mobile.
The date and location changes were announced Tuesday via email by the American Freedom Tour.
“Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have been forced to postpone the event in Birmingham, Alabama,” an email from the organization said. “We are very sorry for any inconvenience. On June 18th, instead of Birmingham, we will be in Northern Mississippi, outside of Memphis. Also, we are expecting to be in Mobile, Alabama on July 9th.”
Juliet Murdock, a customer service representative with American Freedom Tour, said it was uncertain exactly where the Mobile rally will be held. Previous Mobile-based rallies were held at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, although the former president had been planning a rally at the USS Alabama Memorial Park for the Fourth of July last year.
The venue for the Birmingham event, had also not been determined. Birmingham’s Legacy Arena was not available on June 18 due to a Machine Gun Kelly concert.
The event has been scheduled to run from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m., the website said.
Despite the uncertainty on the Mobile venue, the American Freedom Tour email sent to Birmingham ticket holders said that the organization was willing to give out upgraded tickets “closer to the stage, along with free lunch” at either the Mobile event or one that is being rescheduled near Memphis, Tennessee.
Trump’s cancellation of the Birmingham rally means it’s unlikely the former president will be in Alabama during the Republican primary season.
Trump last month withdrew his endorsement of U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks in Alabama’s GOP Senate primary and has yet to announce another endorsement, though he said one would be forthcoming.
Former Business Council of Alabama president and CEO Katie Britt and Huntsville business executive Mike Durant are considered leading candidates for Trump’s endorsement.
