MISHAWAKA — The St. Joseph County VA Clinic in Mishawaka will be renamed after the late U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski after both chambers of Congress passed bills supporting the change.
The U.S. Senate unanimously passed legislation Thursday to rename the clinic the “Jackie Walorski VA Clinic,” according to a press release. An identical bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives in August. All that’s left is for President Joseph Biden to sign the bill into law.
Walorski, a Republican who represented Indiana’s second congressional district, supported the VA clinic’s opening in 2017. Serving on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, she championed reforms to improve the quality and accessibility of veterans’ services, the release states.

“Renaming the Mishawaka VA Clinic in Jackie’s honor is just one way her legacy will live on for years to come,” Indiana Sen. Todd Young, who sponsored the bill along with Sen. Mike Braun, said in a statement.
Walorski, who was 58, died along with two of her political aides and a Nappanee woman in a two-vehicle crash in Elkhart County on Aug. 3. The vehicle in which Walorski rode crossed the center line and collided with the Nappanee woman’s, contrary to initial reports from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
