A $1.5 trillion spending package passed March 11 by Congress gives $97 million to Delaware for beach replenishment and other projects across the state.
“After months of negotiations, I am glad to pass a strong, bipartisan agreement on an appropriations package that will fund the government through September out of the Senate and onto President Biden’s desk,” said Sen. Chris Coons, D-Delaware. “As the first Delaware senator in more than 40 years to serve on the appropriations committee, I am proud that this deal will fund critical government programs and invest in Delaware communities up and down the state – supporting better services, cleaner parks and stronger infrastructure.”
Delaware’s congressional delegation, which includes Coons, and fellow Democrats Sen. Tom Carper and Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, all voted for the spending bill.
A beach nourishment project will receive $11.6 million to improve the coastline along Cape Henlopen, Rehoboth Beach, and Dewey Beach, and on south to Fenwick Island. In Georgetown, the Richard Allen Historic School will receive $100,000 for repairs. The school is a Delaware Public Archives landmark that serves as a community center.
