The City Council will meet with Supervisor Kathryn Barger in a special joint meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The meeting will include an update by the LA County Public Works Department on future work on the completion of the Devil’s Gate Dam restoration project.
In a presentation representatives from LA County and the city’s housing director William Huang will update the City Council on partnerships for providing housing services.
The City Council will also receive an update on the implementation of Measure J alternative to incarceration charter amendment.
The five-member Board of Supervisors, created by the Legislature in 1852, is the governing body of the county of Los Angeles. Barger represents the board’s Fifth District, which includes 22 cities and 87 unincorporated communities, including Altadena and Pasadena, as well as other parts of the San Gabriel Valley, and the San Fernando Valleys. Covering 2,800 square miles, the Fifth District is larger than all the other supervisor districts combined.
During last year’s meeting with the Supervisor, the City Council took public comment for the first time since the pandemic began. Comments will allowed at this meeting, too, but must be confined to topics on the agenda.
Last year’s discussion included a on city and county coordination on federal COVID-19 relief funding, other coronavirus-related news, and an update on recent actions related to the county inspector general’s second interim report on improving oversight and accountability in skilled nursing facilities.
The local leaders will also hear about mental health services being provided by the L.A. County Department of Mental Health, updates on vaccination efforts in Pasadena, a discussion on Heritage Square South’s application for affordable housing funds, and what’s been happening with the Devil’s Gate Dam sediment removal project.
