CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – The Veterans Express is a new clinic being offered in the VA Healthcare System.
“It was quick, it was easy, it was here at home, it was where I was getting my treatment anyway, so they had access to all my records and we kept it all in house and they did a great job,” said Navy veteran and Cheyenne local, Patrick Macy.
The Veterans Express provides same-day care, similar to an urgent care. From cough and cold to bumps and bruises, the intent of the clinic is to provide expedient non-emergent medical care.
“This is a great fit for people who are just looking to be able to get in, get something looked at, and determine whether it’s really critical and needs to be escalated, or we can treat it right now,” Macy said. “It’s a great deal.”
The Veterans Express, or sick call, is similar to what vets might be accustomed to from active duty.
“It worked pretty well on active duty and we figured it might work well here too,” said Paul Roberts, Medical Center Director at the VA. “As a veteran, I think the veterans are going to gravitate to it because it worked well for us when we wore the uniform and it’s our goal to make it work years after we wear the uniform.”
The healthcare personnel at the VA say their priority is serving local veterans by providing quality care.
“Cheyenne has a huge veteran population and it is really ingrained in our whole community to respect and honor that,” said Jeni Wolfe, NP, of the Cheyenne VA.
It only takes a few minutes to get checked in. According to Roberts, visits have usually run between 30 and 45 minutes. The clinic has only been open for a month, but VA personnel are ready to serve even more members of the community.
“They are prepared for the influx of patients on this; if they have the ability to continue to move the patients like they did with me, I think they’re going to have a lot of happy people walking out of here,” said Macy.
The clinic is a walk-in, first come, first serve service. No appointment is necessary.
