The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) finished 90% of the design of Miami Beach’s Alton Road improvements and hosted a public meeting Tuesday to discuss the scope of the project, which extends from Michigan Avenue to 43rd Street, with construction to start in the second quarter of 2025.
The aim is to extend and preserve the pavement service life, enhance safety along the road, raise the road and add two drainage pump stations (for resiliency improvements), and improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety in Miami Beach, according to a presentation by Raymond Valido, roadway design engineer at FDOT to the city commission last week. The project would begin in State Road 907/Alton Road, from Michigan Avenue to the south of 43rd Street/Ed Sullivan Drive, which is the entrance of Mount Sinai.
