INDIANAPOLIS — A 16-year-old male died Sunday night after being shot on the east side of Indianapolis.
Shortly before 10 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot at E. 30th Street and N. Lesley Avenue. Upon arrival, police said they found a 16-year-old male with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound or wounds.
The victim was in critical condition when police arrived, IMPD said. The victim was taken to a hospital trauma center for surgery, where he later died from his injuries, police on scene said.
Officers on scene said there are no suspects in the shooting and IMPD has not released the victim’s identity.
“At the end of the day this is a 16-year-old that was shot. It’s obviously tragic when any person’s shot or loses their life or is critically injured as a result of gun violence,” said IMPD Nightwatch Capt. Mike Leepper.
Leeper added, “You know, more and more we’re seeing people go to guns for things that should’ve never resulted in that. Over very trivial matters.”
IMPD believes there are witnesses to the shooting that have not come forward.
They ask anyone with information to contact IMPD’s Aggravated Assault or Homicide division. They can also report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
