A six-year veteran firefighter of the FDNY died on the job Sunday after a roof collapsed, trapping several members in a Brooklyn house fire, city officials said.
Six of the injured were also members of the FDNY responding to the blaze that burned the roof of a residence on Avenue N in Canarsie. Two civilians were also hurt.
The department said 33 units responded to the home around 1:40 p.m.
Shortly after 2:10 p.m., the department triggered a 3-alarm response.
The conditions injured civilians and firefighters was not immediately known.
Mayor Eric Adams visited the scene and Brookdale Hospital to be briefed by emergency personnel, his press secretary said.
Neighbors in the area were encouraged to close windows due to the amount of smoke in the air.
