The HUB is a rundown of the stories people in Boston are talking about. Patch publishes the HUB every weekday.
Good morning, Boston! Today is Tuesday, May 11. We’re talking about a big comeback, a $10,000 bounty and a fun Mother’s Day message.
It currently costs $2.40 for a one-way ticket on the T. Skip the fare and it could cost you $100 — and even up to six times that depending on how many times you’ve been caught.
But a proposal from the MBTA Fiscal and Management Control Board would see that fine slashed all the way down to $10.
Bruce Mohl at CommonWealth reported on yesterday’s board meeting, which among other things discussed drastically reduced penalties and income-based fares. In fact, the proposal would see the $10 fines stay until such a fare structure was implemented, at which point the fines could increase to $50.
A vote isn’t due until later this month, when the board said it would have more on fare evasion and costs.
Give Bruce’s story a read — there’s really a ton that could be different when you get back to taking the T.

Don’t call it a comeback. OK, call it a comeback — they certainly are. The Zac Brown Band announced it (they?) will be stopping at Fenway Park for its (their?) “Comeback Tour.” The country band, hugely popular in these parts, is playing Aug. 8, just a week after the latest date the state is scheduled to lift all COVID-19 restrictions. The band has sold out a record 11 concerts at Fenway Park. CBS Boston has the details.
Local religious leaders are offering $10,000 for the person who killed a grandmother sitting on her Dorchester porch last month. Rick Sobey at The Boston Herald reported how two organizations put a bounty on the person who pulled the trigger on the bullet that struck Delois Brown a month ago yesterday. “We call upon the community in unequivocal language: Give up the murderer of Delois Brown,” said Rev. Kevin Peterson.
“He’s doing a hell of a job.” That’s the Mother’s Day message former Mayor Marty Walsh’s mom got from President Biden. Biden and Walsh, his labor secretary, called Marty’s ma from the Oval Office on Sunday to wish her a happy day. I’m a day late on this one, but it’s nice to just have a fun moment sometimes, isn’t it?
