Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association reported 13 positive COVID-19 test results among the 4,336 samples analyzed through the first week of spring training, they announced Friday.
Nine players and four staff members tested positive during intake screening. Eleven teams had at least one person test positive.
No new positive results were detected during the monitoring testing phase, which included 2,298 samples. Everyone who cleared intake screening was subject to monitoring testing.
All major-league players on an active roster as well as non-roster invitees are required to be tested. Tier 1 and Tier 2 staff members must also get tested.
