Boston firefighters battled a five-alarm fire inside multiple East Boston triple-decker homes Tuesday evening. First responders rushed to the scene in the 300 block of Princeton Street amid temperatures in the low 90s. Video from Sky 5 showed smoke and flames pouring from what appeared to be a staircase leading to the roof of the home.Paul Burke, the Boston fire commissioner said at least nine firefighters were injured battling the fire, primarily due to the heat. “The heat has been a problem today,” Burke said. “We’ve had to circulate firefighters in and out because the heat is so bad.”Burke said 150 firefighters were called to the scene to battle the blaze inside the three-story building.”There was heavy fire in the rear when they arrived and they had a hard time getting access to it,” Burke said.Approximately a dozen firefighters could be seen standing on the roof, working to knock down the smoke and flames.Burke said the fire burnt through the staircase in the first building, making accessing the blaze difficult. “The tightness of the houses make it very difficult to throw ladders in between them. We were rotating firefighters in and out, but the first arriving firefighters went through their oxygen tanks real fast,” Burke said. “They were they were overheated very quick, so it was important to get relief.”Boston fire said on social media that three triple-decker homes were affected, with fire inside 316 Princeton Street spreading to 314 and 318 Princeton Street. Firefighters said all of the residents were out of the homes. A total of 20 adults and eight children were displaced by the fire. No residents were hurt.
